ZASP and what else we can do...

OUR SERVICES
The ZASP initiative does not aim to override or supersede exiting SMS's or a drilling contractors' HSE framework.
The ZASP scheme helps to enhance and bridge existing systems concurrently as a daily awareness program, helping the Company Rep and the client understand what levels of safety preparedness each rig department is at between the drilling contractor and service companies.
As well as ZASP we can guide on other key areas of rig readiness or ongoing safety concerns or trends.
Our service can be from as little as 1 hour per week using a hybrid, virtual design right up to boots and coveralls on the ground at your work site.
Our consultants will always be fully offshore certified if needed.
See below for a rundown of the types of support we can provide:
From the very beginning we can help support your rig campaign in order to cover all of the expected pitfalls prior to mobilizing a rig.
Our services can be used from a hybrid or site based option for Rig Acceptance, virtual DWOP or CWOP meetings.
We can help to create or review essential Bridging Documents and Emergency Response Manuals or similar contract material.
We can create or review site specific Risk Assessments and SOP's to make sure they are effective and up to date.
Once your rig or campaign is up and running we can help to review and assess daily or weekly HSE trends from HSE Reports and BBS Observation Programs.
Other formats include Tool Box Talk design as well as reviewing and learning from Post TBT's or After Action Reviews to assess trends and effectiveness.
If not already done so we encourage our E&P clients to subscribe to our ZASP scheme.
The key to success at all locations is great and effective communication. Morning calls to town that kick off with HSE - its important to get the balance right and to avoid any mishaps especially with so many people in attendance.
With the service company Reps in the HoD's meeting this is a good opportunity to discuss the previous days ZASP focus and what is planned for the shift and what zonal area will be visited during the shift.
Site Inductions are a fundamental starting point and the first theme new arrivals get to see, so first impressions are important to set the scene.
For personnel arriving by helicopter to a rig or those who have been driving for hours to a land rig, from our experience most of these people don't take in a single bit of information during the first induction, so its vital to get this done properly.
Rig site meetings and working on a good format so all people are included in daily tasks. Meetings such as crew Pre-Tour before a 12 hr shift begins are critical to prepare the mindset of each crew member going out on shift.
We can help to enhance these meetings so they are punctual, informative and engaging.
Weekly HSE crew meetings are essential but I see too many Drilling Contractors get this wrong.
When language can be an issue and we need to translate its important crew are getting the correct information at site. We can help with all of these challenges.
An important program for every site is getting a complete area inspection driven into the culture of all rig departments.
Too many drilling rigs collect and hoard tools & equipment which can end up as a housekeeping headache and can even lead to trip hazards and incidents.
This is where the ZASP scheme can help to pinpoint every critical area and make sure they are safe, fit for purpose and ready to roll when needed.
We have over 150 investigations completed to date using either the Kelvin TopSet method or similar site specific RCA type format.
The key is to produce a complete incident investigation with the proper findings and actions to prevent recurrence.
We can support, review and participate in all types of incident investigation and notification reporting.
This will also be one of the elements for the Coaching for HSE Personnel, program coming up in July.
We have substantial experience from auditing and setting up critical work activity at rig sites such as, Red Zones for Rigs, Safe Mechanical Lifting, Confined Space Entry, Working at Height, Isolation & Lock Out / Tag Out, Working with High Pressure Systems, Working with Electrical Equipment, Working around H2S Zones, Driving and Hot Work.
We have extensive experience of the IOGP Life Saving Rules (or similar) programs and how to successfully implement at site.
As set out in line 4, this is also part of our Site Area Inspection & Audit Program.
Our ZASP scheme will help to communicate the importance of site ownership each day.
One of the biggest site based challenges for any drilling contractor and E&P Operator is managing service companies.
The service providers most of the time do a safe and fantastic job on our rigs but it is vital we support them at all times during their stay.
We have designed the most successful site based inspection model in ZASP (see line 4) and this incorporates 3rd party activities alongside the rig daily operations.
From our own experience this daily inspection model helps to improve communications with every service rep on a rig and helps them to stay on top of their service areas.
From Aug 1st 2025 we will set up a Coaching and Mentoring Virtual Workshop for rig based HSE personnel to help guide them through a successful day, week or month.
This mindset is primarily based on how to implement and run the ZASP scheme at your rig.
We feel we have the most successful approach to maintaining a safe and productive rig site and our aim is to share this program with your HSE Personnel at site.
The workshops will also be used to help HSE Reps with areas they are not strong on by providing advice and realistic solutions.
Although most E&P Operators and drilling rigs have environmental departments at their offices, the rig based HSE Reps normally get to manage the movement and efficiency of such waste collection points and the manifestation from site.
With significant experience in this area we can guide on best site based options and practices for managing the environmental factors at site.
After gaining years of shore base E&P site hours from regions such as Asia, West Africa and Greenland we can guide on safe standards and best practices for these environments.
From our own valuable experience I consider the shore base to be one of the most underestimated and hazardous places to operate in.
Communication and pre-planning as well as maintaining strong Ex-Pat supervision when moving loads is critical.
We can provide up to date best practice guidance for crews and service providers for working on Well Decommissioning works.
Although more of this type of work is being done in the UKCS and now overseas, this type of work might be perceived to being straight forward.
From our experience pulling wells that haven't moved for many years, the nature of this work can present crews with several unorthodox outcomes.
Some of the activities can be safety critical, especially when it comes to heavy and awkward lifting of casing joints cemented together or being exposed to H2S.
Very careful crew awareness is required for this activity.
For drill and deck crews not familiar with completions or well testing activities, this type of works can be extremely hazardous.
Although mainly dominated and supervised by 3rd Party Specialist crews, it is always inevitable that rig crews and service company workers will interact and collaborate in order to make these essential work scopes safe and successful.
Careful pre-planing and dialogue is required on a daily basis for activity that consists of:
Well testing and flaring, the use of Coil Tubing, High Pressure Testing, Electric Wire-Line Ops, Running Completion Strings & Umbilicals, Fracking and the installation of Tree Savers.
Other specialist rig works may include:
MPD, Under Balance Drilling, Unconventional Drilling and running Fishing Tools or a Whipstock.
We can help and support these operations either in a hybrid role or site based it required.
